Islam Aly Abdel Ghani
Islam Ali Abdel Ghani was born in Kafr Ghannam Village at Senbellawein Center in Mansoura Governorate. She graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals in 1998 and married another pharmacist named Sameh Al-Ghazaly. She had four sons: Saleh (13), Ali (11), Mohamed (8), and Amin (3).
Her husband describes her as the best wife, a woman who was diligent in raising and caring for her children and her home. She used to carry out all the responsibilities around the house as well as helping her children memorize Qur’an and helping them with their studies.
She was an activist involved in religious work during her university studies and continued to keep on to date with public matters—Egyptian or religious ones—but was unable to participate in the protests due to taking care of her children. But on the 10th of Ramadan (July 19, 2013), she asked her husband’s permission to go out and participate in the anti-military coup protest in Mansoura City after the Tarawih prayer. Participating in a protest for the first time in years, she, unfortunately, ended up 1 of 4 victims that day when supporters of the coup started firing on the women’s march.
The forensics report stated that her death was a result of bullet wounds to the head caused fracturing to the skull and internal bleeding of the brain. Her funeral was conducted at the Awlad Mousa Mosque in Kafr Ghannam Village at Senbellawein amidst an atmosphere of extreme grief amongst the people of the village.
