Ahmed Sameer Assem El Senoussi
Ahmed Samir Assem, 26 years old, used to work as a photojournalist for the Freedom and Justice Party newspaper. He was among 51 other people killed in the massacre of the Republican Guard, on July 7, 2013, after the commanding forces opened fire on supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi. After the army announced the removal of the elected president from power and took over the country on July 3, four days before the massacre.
Assem was present in the vicinity of the sit-in Rabaa Al-Adawiya, to cover the events of the sit-in, and when the shooting began, Assem continued to document the events, including the shooting of one of the security snipers at the demonstrators. He was killed to be the photojournalist who documented his murder with his camera.
On the second anniversary of his martyrdom, Amal Al-Senussi, the mother of the martyr Ahmed Assem, said in statements to “Rasd News Network that Ahmed is the present absentee: “He often felt his death approaching days before his martyrdom.” Including if he was martyred, he ululates because he is a bridegroom and a martyr who is going to heaven.
His sister, Nevin Samir, said of him that her brother loved photography; In one of the notes he wrote, he was about his passion for photography and spoke with his father about serious steps he was taking to complete his studies of photography abroad, and that he had already started studying language courses necessary for travel and study, but his journalistic work took a lot of his time.
The Journalists Syndicate at the time mourned Ahmed, but the security did not hold the responsibility for killing him. It was content to condemn all parties for their lack of commitment to protecting journalists. The Journalists Syndicate granted Ahmed its honorary membership and provided his family with an exceptional pension.
