954 Deaths in Detention Centers in Egypt since 2013, a report said

In a report issued on the death cases inside the detention centers in the Egypt, the Committee for Justice Association said that 958 citizens lost their lives in these centers during the period from June 30, 2013, until the end of November 2019.The report published was on  December 10, 2019 on the International Human Rights Day.

The report stated that “negligence and poor detention conditions have put the lives of thousands of prisoners at great risk”. However, the Egyptian government organized an inspection tour for Tora Prisons Complex, which contains seven prisons, the most famous of which are Al-Mazraa(farm) Prison and High-security prison known as Al-Aqrab(Scorpion) Prison.’

“Committee for Justice” submitted the report “Without Accountability”, which contains accurate data that its team collected and analyzed to present it to the local and the international public opinion to put in their hands a picture of the reality about what is going on inside the detention locatoins in Egypt, taking into account that all of the mentioned cases and the provided numbers are only our research team has elicited and obtained by the institution from its direct sources and was able to verify it, and it ‘certainly does not express the total amount of the numbers.’

 

CFJ’s team monitored during the preparation of the report that the suffering that prisoners and detainees in detention facilities in Egypt are violationting the basic rights of prisoners, which  led to the death of 958 Egyptians since 30 June 2013 to November 30, 2019, according to researchers’ monitoring and documentation of these cases.
